Faisal Yunus obtained his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine – University of Indonesia (FMUI) in 1976. In 1983, he completed his postgraduate course at the Department of Internal Medicine, School of Medicine, Hiroshima University, Japan, where he also earned his PhD and developed expertise in pulmonology.


Throughout his distinguished career, Professor Faisal has held various prominent positions at the FMUI and other institutions. He has been the president of The Indonesian Society of Respirology since 2005 and has attended many local and international courses and training programmes in Japan, Australia, Singapore and the US. He is an active member of several prestigious international, professional organisations including the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) and the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR), and has significant experience in many clinical researches with over 100 publications in local and international journals.

Sombat Leelasupasri

Sombat Leelasupasri is Deputy Director of the Department of Medicine in Phramongkutklao Hospital, Thailand. He obtained his medical degree from Chulalongkorn University where he subsequently completed his medical internship. Dr Leelasupasri was certified by the Royal College of Physicians of Thailand – Board of Internal Medicine and was shortly conferred a Certificate of Research Fellowship and Visiting Scientist status by the University of Illinois in Chicago. He has Sub-board certification from the Infectious Disease Association of Thailand where he has been a member of the Administrative Committee since 1994. His field expertise has shaped his numerous research involvements including studies on antimicrobial resistance of certain bacteria and the effects of antimicrobial therapies on polymorphonuclear leukocyte functions. He is regularly invited as guest lecturer in annual academic conferences on infectious diseases in Thailand.

 Muhammad Arifin Nawas Muhammad Arifin Nawas

Muhammad Nawas is a specialist in pulmonology and respiratory medicine, having obtained his medical degree from the University of Padjadjaran, Bandung, Indonesia, followed by his residency at the Pulmonology Specialty University of Indonesia. He has years of experience as a staff at the Department of Pulmonology and Respiratory MedicineUniversity of Indonesia-Persahabatan where he was also a former chief of training and education. In 1995, he was appointed as vice director of medical care and nursing at the Persahabatan Hospital, Jakarta and served as the general and finance director of the same institution from 2001 to 2005. His participation in several international training courses on occupational medicine, TB control, and hospital training and management further reinforced his expertise in the field. A published author, Dr Nawas has published works on several local and international journals and is an active member of important professional organisations including the Indonesia Medical Association and the Indonesian Civil Service Corps. He held the chief post of the Professional Council of the Indonesian Association of Pulmonologists from 2005 to 2008.
